With the perfect blend of film historian expertise and the engaging style of a podcast, writer and filmmaker John Mulholland is your guide through spirited debates across various genres.
The first volume, "Politics in Film," (launching on Election Day) features Mulholland alongside Craig Gilbert and Meir Ribalow, unpacking what truly constitutes a political film in Hollywood and how the genre has evolved over more than a century. From Frank Capra’s Meet John Doe to Alexander Payne’s Election and John Frankenheimer’s The Manchurian Candidate, cinematic politics have taken on many forms. The crew also draws sharp insights from Citizen Kane, High Noon, The Candidate, In the Heat of the Night, and many more.
Each volume of the series—future topics include Westerns and Courtroom Dramas—is based on a live discussion with John and his guests, paired with film synopses and visuals to deepen the reading experience.
